Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University Aluminum Test Training and Research Center (ALUTEAM) which provides design, advanced technology production and material testing services to brands in the manufacturing sector, participated in the support works initiated by SAHA Istanbul with the spirit of national mobilization for the coronavirus (Covid-19) epidemic with material laboratories and additive manufacturing production laboratories. SAHA Istanbul members, including ALUTEAM, which offers its production capabilities and possibilities to medical device manufacturers for effective combat for Covid-19, will continue to work during the normalization period.

The industry cluster SAHA Istanbul's project to support the supply and production stages of medical device manufacturer companies, which was launched as part of a call to combat Covid-19, brought together many institutions and organizations. The ALUTEAM team, which aims to use the information produced in accordance with the vision of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Foundation University for the benefit of the country and humanity, closely follows all the activities initiated in order to nationalize the capital as a requirement of its mission, and takes part in the organization of SAHA Istanbul, which ıt is a member of, in a short time and opened the additive manufacturing technologies to the service of medical companies.

Coronavirus, which is a disease that is transmitted from person to person and targeting the respiratory system, has increased the need for medical devices, especially respiratory equipment all over the world. Calling for mobilization in March 2020 for this need, SAHA Istanbul put all its design, engineering and production activities into use during the epidemic. ALUTEAM also participated in the call, which was used for the production of medical devices of medical device manufacturers and had equipment at the point of supply, and its components, with additive manufacturing laboratories. ALUTEAM Design and Production Unit started working to respond to the production demands received by SAHA Istanbul as soon as possible.

Technology developed within the university was used for public health

Aluminum Test Training and Research Center, which has become one of the important centers of university-industry cooperation by combining the academic experience of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University Engineering Faculty with the production technologies of the industry, has employed its knowledge for the production activities of medical companies within the scope of social responsibility work of SAHA Istanbul. The parts received by the companies requesting production from ALUTEAM for use in the related fields were sent to the requesting organizations by the relevant manufacturers. For example; The parts named “Laringscope” were sent as a grant for the respiratory devices used in Izmit State Hospital by Ortem company, which requested production. As we move to the normalization phase in the process of coronavirus, ALUTEAM will continue to cooperate with the university industry to serve the medical companies that are in demand to speed up the production infrastructure and product development processes.
